A few years ago I was diagnosed with SIBO — small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. If you've been through it, you know how disorienting it is. You go from eating normally to suddenly needing to understand fermentable fibres, FODMAPs, lactose, fructans, and a whole vocabulary you never asked to learn.
My gastroenterologist pointed me toward the low-FODMAP diet. It helped. A lot. But following it properly meant spending hours cross-referencing food lists, app databases, and medical PDFs that often contradicted each other. Half the resources online were either too vague to be useful, buried behind paywalls, or surrounded by so many ads you couldn't read them comfortably. I found myself wanting a single, clean place where I could get accurate numbers without the noise.
So I built it.
I still follow a modified low-FODMAP approach — not as strictly as during the elimination phase, but enough that I keep thinking carefully about what I eat. That ongoing experience is what drives this site. When I build a FODMAP checker or a glycemic load guide, it's because I actually wanted that tool for myself.
I'm not a doctor, a registered dietitian, or a medical professional of any kind. Everything on this site is based on publicly available nutritional data and my own experience navigating gut health issues. The tools and articles here are for general information only — they're not a substitute for professional medical advice, and they're definitely not a substitute for working with a healthcare provider if you have a diagnosed condition.
I try to be accurate, cite sources where I can, and flag uncertainty when I'm not sure about something. If you spot an error, please tell me — I'd rather fix it than leave wrong information up.
There are currently over 34 free tools covering measurement conversions, cooking timers, recipe scaling, baking science, nutrition, and drinks. The blog publishes practical guides on the same topics — from FODMAP food lists and glycemic load tables to BBQ smoking temperatures and rice-to-water ratios.
Every tool runs entirely in your browser. No data from your inputs is ever transmitted or stored anywhere. No account required, no email needed, nothing collected.
Every tool and blog post is available in both English and Spanish. Use the language switcher in the top-right corner of any page, or go directly to cookcalculator.net/es/ for the Spanish version.
If you have feedback, spotted a mistake, or have an idea for a tool that would genuinely help people — I'd like to hear from you. Head to the contact page or email hello@cookcalculator.net directly.
